Home/Where to stay/Banglamphu/4- and 5-star hotels
4- and 5-star hotels in Banglamphu
A shortlist of 4- and 5-star hotels in Banglamphu, the old-city neighbourhood wrapped around Khao San. It is for travellers who want temples, the river and canal-side streets on the doorstep without the 2am bass.
Staying in Banglamphu
Banglamphu is the working Bangkok neighbourhood that sits one block from the Khao San strip: two-storey wooden shophouses along the Phra Sumen canal, families on the same soi for four generations, the wet market on Chakrabongse, and Phra Sumen Fort at the river corner where locals picnic at sunset. Cross Chakrabongse and the volume drops. It suits couples, travellers over 30, and anyone staying more than three nights who wants central old-city convenience in a walkable, boat-connected area rather than a party strip.
The hotels on this list sit along the neighbourhood's two main spines. Riva Surya Bangkok and The StandardX Bangkok Phra Arthit sit on Phra Arthit Road close to the river, while Samsen Street Hotel, Nouvo City Hotel and Chillax Resort are grouped on the Samsen sois, with The Gravitique Hotel Khaosan, SUSU khaosan hostel and Bud Brew Beyond Dispensary and Hotel on the Tani and Kraisi lanes and Lilit Bang Lumphu Bangkok on Phrasumeru Road. Rooms run from 4-star addresses with 24-hour reception and family rooms to 5-star capsules and hostels.

Plan your stay
Getting there and around
Banglamphu has no BTS or MRT of its own. The nearest MRT, Sam Yot, is a 20-minute walk, and the nearest BTS, National Stadium, needs a bus or taxi. Plan on taxis, tuk-tuks and river boats rather than trains, and allow 30-45 minutes each way for a Sukhumvit dinner. The compensation is that the neighbourhood itself is walkable and boat-connected, so the temples and the river are reached on foot or from the pier.
When to go
Sunset at Phra Sumen Fort, where locals picnic at the river corner, is the daily anchor. Alms rounds by monks at 6am and the wet market on Chakrabongse shape the early morning. The canal path east along Khlong Banglamphu, past wooden houses on stilts and laundry drying, is the walk to take when the day cools. Bangkok's seasons run hot, rainy and cool, so build around the heat rather than fighting it.
