Home/Where to stay/Dusit/4- and 5-star hotels
4- and 5-star hotels in Dusit
A shortlist of 4- and 5-star hotels in Dusit, the royal and ministerial quarter Rama V laid out north of old Bangkok. It suits travellers who want quiet, walkable boulevards within taxi distance of the Grand Palace, not nightlife.
Staying in Dusit
Dusit is the district Rama V built after his European tours of the 1890s, convinced Siam needed its own Champs-Élysées. He drew Ratchadamnoen Nok as a broad tree-lined avenue north from the old city, built Dusit Palace and Vimanmek Mansion, and commissioned the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall in Italian marble. It remains Bangkok's civic and ceremonial quarter — royal palaces on one side, government ministries on the other, and huge quiet parks between them.
This is the least touristy of Bangkok's central districts, with perhaps 15 hotels of any consequence, a modest food scene and no nightlife to speak of. The hotels below sit along Krung Kasem Road, Samsen Road, Rajvithi Road, Nakhon Chaisi Road and the Charansanitwong sois, generally north and west of the palaces. It suits architecture and history buffs, couples and families wanting a genuinely quiet base, second- or third-trip visitors, and anyone with early business at a ministry, embassy or Grand Palace ceremony.

Plan your stay
Getting there and around
No airport, station or transfer detail is given for Dusit in the site material, so plan on taxis. The district is 3 km from Khao San and the old city, a short taxi from the Grand Palace, and best worked on foot once you are there: the boulevards are properly walkable in a way most of Bangkok is not. The Royal Dusit boulevard walk (4 km) starts at Wat Benchamabophit on Rama V Road, runs east on Sri Ayutthaya to Uthong Nai, turns south past the Equestrian Statue of King Chulalongkorn and Royal Plaza with the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall behind, then continues down Ratchadamnoen Nok across the canal to the Democracy Monument in Phra Nakhon, from where you can taxi or walk on to lunch in Banglamphu.
When to go
The site gives no seasonal guidance for Dusit, so go on the walk's own advice: Wat Benchamabophit opens early and is best between 6:30 and 8:30am, before the heat and the traffic. Mornings suit the boulevards and the parks, when the ceremonial streets are at their quietest. Confirm current opening arrangements before travelling: much of Dusit Palace has been closed to the public since 2016, the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall since 2017, and Dusit Zoo closed for redevelopment in 2018.
