Phuket International Airport sits in the north of the island and receives flights from Bangkok, other Thai cities and international destinations; from Bangkok you can fly in about 1.5 hours, or take long-distance buses or a private car over roughly 12 hours. There is no rail link to Phuket. From the airport, taxis, ride-hailing services and shared minivans connect to beaches and towns, with travel times varying with traffic. Long-distance buses run from Bangkok and other southern cities to Phuket Bus Terminal. Getting around the island is easiest by car or motorbike, though taxis and songthaews (shared trucks) are available, and local buses connect Phuket Town with major beaches.
When to go
Phuket has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round. The dry season from November to April is sunny and ideal for beach activities, while the monsoon season from May to October brings rain and occasional storms. Plan beach days and island-hopping for the dry months, and expect wetter spells if you travel between May and October.
