3-star hotels in Sathorn
A shortlist of 15 three-star hotels in Sathorn, Bangkok's calmer, greener twin of Silom. It covers guesthouses and apartment-style suites, from a 2,623-review mainstay to small boutique places with a few dozen reviews each.
Staying in Sathorn
Sathorn runs as two parallel boulevards, North and South, split by a khlong. It is Bangkok's diplomatic quarter: the Singaporean, French, German, Australian and Belgian embassies sit here, alongside the MahaNakhon tower and the city's best five-stars. Where Silom is loud and mixed, Sathorn is calmer, greener and wealthier — and barely 5 minutes' walk from Silom across a footbridge, so you get the location without the pavement chaos. You do not stroll along the 6 lane road itself; you walk the smaller sois off it, such as Soi Suan Plu with its 30-year-old noodle shops, Soi Sri Bumphen, and Convent Road. The BTS Silom Line runs directly over Sathorn between Chong Nonsi and Saphan Taksin.
These 15 hotels mostly sit back from the boulevards, in the sois: several address Soi Suan Plu, Narathiwas and Rama IV, with others on Sathorn South Road and the Charoen Krung sois that run down towards the river. That spread suits couples who want a quiet base close to the sky-rail, families who need family rooms and space, business travellers drawn by the embassies and offices, and short-break visitors who would rather sleep in Sathorn and walk into Silom.

Getting there and around
Sathorn is served by the BTS Silom Line, which runs directly over the road between Chong Nonsi and Saphan Taksin. The site's own route starts at Chong Nonsi BTS, heads south down Narathiwas past the MahaNakhon tower, turns into South Sathorn past the Banyan Tree, the Sukhothai and the embassies, crosses the khlong at Soi Suan Plu, and returns up North Sathorn past the Sofitel and the German and French embassies, finishing at Sala Daeng BTS. For the river, take the BTS from Chong Nonsi or Sala Daeng to Saphan Taksin (2-3 stops), walk down to Sathorn Pier, and take the orange-flag Chao Phraya Express Boat to Tha Chang pier; from there it is a five-minute walk to the palace gate. The site describes the whole trip as 40-50 minutes and much more pleasant than a taxi in traffic.
