Home/Where to stay/Kanchanaburi/3-star hotels
3-star hotels in Kanchanaburi
A shortlist of 3-star hotels for a Kanchanaburi trip, judged on guest scores, review volume and the facilities travellers actually use. Ratings here run from 4.2 to 4.9 out of 5, with the strongest picks drawn from stays booked and checked through the site.
Staying in Kanchanaburi
Kanchanaburi is the provincial capital 130km west of Bangkok, sitting where the Kwai Yai and Kwai Noi rivers meet. It is the gateway to the Death Railway, the WWII cemeteries, Erawan waterfall and limestone karst country, and the town carries that history openly: three cemeteries, two museums, the bridge itself, and a working stretch of the original railway that still runs trains. Two nights is the sensible minimum; one day for the town, one for Erawan Falls or Hellfire Pass.
Every hotel on this list has a Bangkok address, so treat them as a pre- or post-Kanchanaburi base rather than somewhere in the province itself. Most cluster around Pra Sumen Road, Dinso Road and Ratchadamnoen Klang in Phra Nakhon, a short walk from each other and well placed for the old city. The area suits couples and short-break travellers who want small heritage-style places, and there is family-room and cot provision at a handful of them for those travelling with children.

Getting there and around
From the site's own notes: Kanchanaburi is 130km west of Bangkok and about a three-hour drive. It is a separate province, not a Bangkok neighbourhood, which is why every hotel on this list keeps a Bangkok address. Within Kanchanaburi, the War Cemetery sits on Sangchuto Road opposite the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre museum; the JEATH War Museum is a short walk north on Sangchuto, and the Bridge is 1.5km west along Mae Nam Kwai Road, with Chukkadon Road as a quieter parallel return. Two hours covers the town walk with museum stops, best done between 8am and 10am before the heat.
When to go
November to February is dry and pleasantly cool, around 20-30°C. March to May is brutal, often 38-40°C, with no sea breeze this far inland. June to October is the rainy season: Erawan Falls are at their most spectacular, but landslides can close park roads, so book any waterfall trip with a weather-flexible schedule between June and September.
