3-star hotels in Chinatown (Yaowarat)
A shortlist of 3-star hotels in Bangkok's Chinatown (Yaowarat), the city's 200-year-old Chinese quarter. It is for food-first travellers and culture travellers who want to sleep inside the district and walk out into the food stalls.
Staying in Chinatown (Yaowarat)
Chinatown (Yaowarat) is the oldest Chinatown in the world outside China. Yaowarat Road runs roughly 1.5km from the Ong Ang canal to Odeon Circle: gold shops by day, and from 6pm one of the planet's great street-food streets. Sampeng Lane, one alley south, is the original textile market, and Talat Kao is fresh produce, dried seafood and pork. The MRT Blue Line reached the district in 2019 via Wat Mangkon station on Charoen Krung Road.
The hotels here stand on Yaowarat Road itself and in the lanes off it, on Songwat Road, Klan Tan in Talat Noi, Soi Nana, Trok Pho and Soi Charoenkrung 14, with others along Mittphan Road and Krungkasem Road. The district suits couples and food-first travellers on a short break, and business guests who want a central base; light sleepers should note Yaowarat runs late, families with strollers will find the alleys impassable, and there is no pool inventory here.

Plan your stay
Getting there and around
The MRT Blue Line reached Chinatown in 2019: Wat Mangkon station on Charoen Krung Road drops you 200m from Yaowarat Road, which changed the neighbourhood by making it accessible without a taxi for the first time. For orientation, Yaowarat Road runs roughly 1.5km from the Ong Ang canal to Odeon Circle. Once here, walk: Sampeng Lane is one alley south of Yaowarat, and Talat Kao runs north from it. The district is dense and confusing on purpose, and the alleys are literally impassable for strollers.
When to go
The best hours are 6-11pm on any night except Monday, when many stalls close. The temperature drops, the streetlights come on, and the crowd shifts from local shoppers to Thai food tourists, Chinese-tourist tour groups and Western food-hunters with cameras. It is crowded in the way that is exhilarating, not oppressive. Bring cash in 20s and 100s and an appetite that survives 6-7 small dishes.

Questions, answered
Which of these hotels is closest to the centre of Chinatown?

Do any of these Chinatown hotels have parking?
Among the listed hotels, only ZEN Rooms Yaowarat soi 7 names parking in its facilities. Plan on the MRT Blue Line instead: Wat Mangkon station on Charoen Krung Road drops you 200m from Yaowarat Road, and the line reached the district in 2019.
Which hotels here are best for families?
W22 by Burasari provides family rooms and a cot, and rates 4.4 out of 5 from 1227 reviews. The Orientale, La Locanda and River View Residence also list family rooms. Note that the Chinatown alleys are impassable for strollers, so expect to carry children on the busiest lanes.
Which hotel has the highest guest rating?
Oldthaiheng Hotel and Foodotel lead at 4.6 out of 5, from 256 and 236 reviews respectively. The Orientale also scores 4.6 out of 5, from 68 reviews. W22 by Burasari sits at 4.4 out of 5, but from a much larger 1227 reviews.
Can I get breakfast at these hotels?
Oldthaiheng Hotel, Foodotel, W22 by Burasari, La Locanda and The Krungkasem Srikrung Hotel all list breakfast, and Oldthaiheng Hotel also offers breakfast in room. Loy La Long Hotel lists breakfast as well. In this district, many guests eat their way down Yaowarat Road instead.
Are there hotels in Chinatown (Yaowarat) with a pool?
None of the 3-star hotels on this shortlist lists a pool. The neighbourhood's inventory is limited on that front. If a pool matters more than the address, treat these hotels as a food-and-culture base and swim elsewhere in Bangkok.
Do any of these hotels have a spa or barber?
La Locanda and Pho Place both list a barber or beauty salon. For a drink at the hotel, Oldthaiheng Hotel, 103 Bed and Brews, ZEN Rooms Basic Chinatown Bangkok, China Town Hotel, The Krungkasem Srikrung Hotel, Arawana Express Chinatown and River View Residence list a bar or lounge.
Are pets allowed at these hotels?
None of the listed 3-star hotels in Chinatown (Yaowarat) names pets in its facilities. Guests travelling with animals should confirm directly with the hotel, as the data here does not cover pet policies.
