Getting there and around

Ban Chalong is about 10 kilometres south of Phuket Town, the island's capital, and roughly 40 kilometres from Phuket International Airport. From the airport, a taxi or private transfer takes about an hour; public buses run to Phuket Town, where you can connect to local songthaews or taxis. Within Ban Chalong, songthaews (shared pickups) and motorbike taxis are common for short trips. Renting a car or motorbike is popular for exploring southern Phuket, but do so only if you are comfortable with local traffic. Many hotels also arrange transfers.

When to go

The best time to visit Ban Chalong is during the dry season, from November to April, when seas are calmer and boat trips to the Phi Phi Islands and other destinations run regularly. The monsoon season, from May to October, brings occasional heavy rain and rougher seas, which can affect boat schedules. Temperatures remain warm year-round, with the coolest months being December and January. If you plan to visit Wat Chalong or the Big Buddha, early morning is cooler and less crowded.
