Surat Thani is accessible by air, rail and road. Surat Thani International Airport is about 30 kilometres from the city centre and has flights from Bangkok. Trains from Bangkok's Hua Lamphong station arrive at Surat Thani Railway Station, which is in Phunphin, about 15 kilometres from the city. Buses from Bangkok and other southern cities also serve the city. Once in Surat Thani, you can get around by songthaew (shared taxis), motorbike taxis or local buses. Taxis are available but may be scarce; renting a car or motorbike is an option for more flexibility.
When to go
The best time to visit Surat Thani is during the dry season, from December to April, when the weather is generally sunny and rainfall is low. The hottest months are March and April. The monsoon season runs from May to November, with September and October often being the wettest. If you plan to visit the nearby islands, the dry season offers calmer seas and better conditions for travel.
