Getting there and around
Kanchanaburi is about 130 kilometres west of Bangkok; by road it takes around two to three hours via Highway 323. Buses and minivans run from Bangkok's southern bus terminal (Sai Tai Mai) and from Kanchanaburi bus station. By train, daily services run from Bangkok's Thonburi station to Kanchanaburi, taking about three hours. Within Kanchanaburi, songthaews and motorbike taxis are common for short trips, and bicycles and motorbikes can be rented in town. For Erawan National Park and other attractions, hire a songthaew or join a tour.
When to go
The best time to visit Kanchanaburi is from November to February, during the cool dry season, when temperatures are milder and rainfall is low.
