From Bangkok, the usual options are a direct flight to Krabi or a bus and train combination to Surat Thani or Krabi. Having your own transport or arranging a taxi makes exploring the more scattered sights easier.
When to go
The dry season from November to April brings calmer seas and clearer skies, which suits boat trips to Koh Jum and the islands. May to October is the southwest monsoon, with more rain and rougher water, though the area remains green and many visitors still travel. The hottest months are typically March and April. Local festivals such as the Krabi Vegetarian Festival in October follow the Chinese lunar calendar and vary by year.
