Question 1

Where is Motu Bangkok located?

Accepted Answer

Motu Bangkok is in Khao San, Bangkok (95 Asadang Road Wangburaphaphirom Phranakorn Motu Bangkok 2Nd Floor, Bangkok, Thailand), close to Erawan Shrine.

Question 2

How much does Motu Bangkok cost per night?

Accepted Answer

Prices are set live by the hotel — check the booking page for a real rate for your dates.

Question 3

Is Bangkok better for families or couples?

Accepted Answer

Both, but the areas differ. Couples do well in Thonglor, Ekkamai, Ari or on the river in Thonburi, where the mood is calmer and dinner is the point of the evening. Families should look at Sukhumvit around Phrom Phong (BTS) — family rooms in the four-stars, Emporium and EmQuartier malls next door, and Benjasiri Park across the road. Skip Khao San with children, and check whether your hotel counts under-12s as free — many Bangkok properties do.

Question 4

What should I book in advance in Bangkok?

Accepted Answer

Book hotels for mid-December to early January six to eight weeks out; the four-stars on Sukhumvit and the river resorts sell out first. Chinese New Year week and the three nights of Songkran (13-15 April) also need advance booking, especially around Khao San and Silom. The train to Ayutthaya you can buy on the day, but the sleeper train to Chiang Mai should be reserved a week ahead. Everything else — restaurants, tuk-tuks, day tours — is fine on arrival.

Question 5

What's a typical nightly hotel rate in Bangkok?

Accepted Answer

A mid-range four-star on Sukhumvit runs ฿2,300-130 outside peak season, which is the sweet spot most visitors end up in. Budget rooms with air-con in Banglamphu or Pratunam start around ฿990-45, and hostel dorms are ฿390-25. Top-end sits at ฿5,920-500, with the historic river hotels reaching ฿13,160-900 for a suite. Add roughly 40% to any of these figures for the last two weeks of December.

Question 6

Is Bangkok walkable?

Accepted Answer

In patches. Rattanakosin between Wat Pho, the Grand Palace and Wat Suthat is genuinely walkable, and so are Yaowarat's night markets and the strip between Nana and Asok on Sukhumvit. But pavements are uneven, crossings are rare on the big roads, and 35°C with humidity kills walking ambition by 11am. Plan to walk within a neighbourhood and take the BTS, MRT or a boat between them.

Question 7

How should I dress for Bangkok's temples?

Accepted Answer

Shoulders and knees covered at every working temple — this is not optional at the Grand Palace, Wat Pho or Wat Arun, and staff at the Grand Palace gate turn people away or rent sarongs for around ฿200 with a deposit. Slip-on shoes save time because you remove them before entering the ordination halls. Avoid Buddha-image tattoos on show and do not point your feet at any image. On Makha Bucha and Visakha Bucha (February and May full moons) the temples are busier and stricter, not more relaxed.
